We are all fascinated watching our favourite athletes dominate in sportinig events. What sets them apart? For some, it is pure talent. For others, it is rigorous training programme or mental toughness. Some combine these factors to consistently perform at a high level. LeBron James, for instance, has become an NBA legend owing to his mental strength and natural abilities. What do you think propels athletes to success?

Most of the athletes that we would consider as the very best have an undying hunger for success. They are born winners and winning is in their DNA. Call it arrogance but that desire to stay winning propels them to work more to achieve their goals of always winning.

I would say that genetics play a huge role in the success of a person too.

Personality, or drive, would probably come secondary. You need a stable foundation that you're capable of being a successful player before you can work at becoming one.

The key to success depends on dedication and how much you work relentlessly. Athletes dedicate a lot of hours to training because they need to perfect their skills. The success achieved by athlete is from continuous pursuit to become great regardless of any challenges. LeBron James symbolizes what I'm talking about. His level of dedication made him a well recognised athlete.

I don't think there is any other answer than either ambition or passion, I think the latter is the main reason, there are people who have extreme passion for certain sports, this is what leads them to success in my opinion.

This is only applicable to few players with Messi at the top of it if I'm looking only at football. He's very good because of his genetics. He needed little or no training to be exceptional.

This doesn't apply to most players with Cristiano Ronaldo at the head of it. CR7 is a product of hard work and dedication. If he relied on genetics to be successful, he wouldn't have been what he is today.

I think its also about support.

Sports is usually very expensive field because of the dearth of sports as a career option and that of sponsors willing to spend the money on sports.

Hence, I think community support is very important for building support. If not one person can contribute to sponsorship, many as a community can do. Either through money or physical help, whichever will help the athlete focus on competition.
