I was in a gym one day, and one big girl came in, and the way the skinny girls looked at her was despicable. They forgot that everyone starts from somewhere. I kept wondering what was going on in their mind. I think the gym should have no judgment rules.

Do you think they see them as making the best step or see it as something bad? Shouldn't everyone be free to use the gym?

I think it's great to see overweight people at the gym and, as a regular, I tend to introduce myself to make them aware that it's a friendly environment. If I see them doing something wrong, I politely ask if they need assistance, and help them if they want it. This is only to enforce that it's a shame-free zone and they have nothing to worry about, hopefully giving them the confidence that they can then ask anybody else for help if they need it.

There are also the staring gym-goers. However, I don't think they're necessarily looking in disgust, but rather curiosity. However, I don't think that they know how to address the situation as it might be a first for them to see it, so all they can do is look and try not to look. These people are the ones that often make it uncomfortable for fat people because fat people perceive staring as judgemental.

Then the latter group is the people who criticize fat people at the gym, and even disgustingly film it to post online. Those people are terrible and generally an outlier of all gym-goers.

Both the second and third types make it difficult for the fatter gym-goers to continue their goals. So, it's important to remember that you're all there for a common goal and try to fit into the first group if you have the personality and knowledge to do so.

Most of the people who are fit seem to look down about people with excessive body weight. They believe these people are overweight because they are too lazy to work out and eat a lot, which actually is not always the case.

I don't look at the fat people in some kind of way because I know that obesity issues are not simple and are determined by some factors like family genes, diseases or illness. However, they can be fit too if they workout regularly.
