Tom Hanks's latest film Here has faced a brutal opening at the box office, bringing in just $5 million in its debut after costing a whopping $50 million to make. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, was intended to offer a unique cinematic experience. However, its bold approach seems to have missed the mark with audiences.

Zemeckis, who directed Here, said that the film’s experimental style, praised by former Miramax head Bill Block, may have been a major reason for its lack of success. “He had the courage and vision to understand the movie and make it," Zemeckis said, crediting Block for pushing the film forward despite its risks.

Released on November 1, Here is based on Richard McGuire’s 2014 graphic novel and stars Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Dockery. The movie’s lukewarm debut adds to a larger trend of struggles for theatrical releases, especially high-budget fantasy dramas. Zemeckis noted that the broader industry faces similar challenges, with more filmmakers dealing with disappointing box office numbers.

For Hanks, Here marks a major setback, with the movie potentially falling short of recouping even a fraction of its budget. Despite the star power and unique concept, it seems Here couldn’t quite connect with its intended audience.

I just saw that it's coming to the American movie theaters here, which made me want to watch the trailer and judge for myself.

It doesn't look too bad as a family movie as it's rated PG-13. However, I think I'll screen it before letting my daughter watch it as the sex and nudity descriptions on IMDb are a bit concerning. I would need to determine how suggestive it is before letting her watch it.

It's a movie that the wife and I will more likely than not watch though, if it ever comes to Japanese theaters.

I am a fan of Tom Hanks but I have not watched this movie yet. Sometimes a movie failing in the box office does not determine the quality. Most of the successful movies are actually bogus movies

I still need to watch it to decide for myself though. Recently I have noticed most movies with bad reviews are actually pretty decent movies. I have watched some movies that didn't do well at the box office but are pretty decent.

Some good movies that I've seen recently seem to "bomb" on reviews for the first week, but if you check back in on them 3-4 weeks later, the reviews/ratings balance out a bit more.

I'm starting to wonder if it's botting to tank a movie's box-office potential now.

Lol that's true, I have also noticed a few movies like that as well. I guess people are just quick to condemn and find faults before anything else.
