A portrait of President Donald Trump, commissioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been gifted to the US leader, the Kremlin has confirmed.

Putin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed the gift was given to Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, during a meeting in Moscow earlier in March.
Well, what can I say? What does this say about the Trump-Putin relationship ? Is this a good or bad thing?

Yawn 🥱

Putin has gifted every President something from at least Bush Jr. (to include Biden and Obama).
Trump isn’t the first sitting president to receive a gift from Putin. In 2021, Putin gave then-President Joe Biden a $12,000 lacquer writing box and pen when they met at a summit in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2013, he reportedly sent then-President Barack Obama porcelain plates and espresso cups.

This apparently isn’t the first portrait of a U.S. leader Putin has sent, either. In 2014, the Russia president reportedly sent to George H.W. Bush a portrait of the former president on his 90th birthday.

While paintings can be have arbitrary value, we know for certain Joe Biden received a $12,000 gift from Putin. What do you have to say for that, especially since the Ukrainian invasion occurred under Biden?

That said: How would international relations be if a President marked their gifts as "Return to Sender" without even opening them?

It would've been hilarious if Putin commissioned Hunter Biden for the painting though. 🤣

Beats me, man. :sneaky:
I mean, you're accusing Trump of taking a painting valued at $0 to $1,000,000 (which still goes through a process for payment if he wants to keep it, unless he pays himself).

Yet when presented with the fact that this has happened to every President since Bush Jr., which I'm sure you were unaware of or wouldn't have such a harsh opinion on Trump accepting a gift, you're willing to overlook that the President, who couldn't prevent the Ukranian-Russian war, took a $12,000 present from Putin.

Again, I revert to this:
That said: How would international relations be if a President marked their gifts as "Return to Sender" without even opening them?

If you were a Dictator and sent presents to Presidents and dignitaries around the world, what would you do if you got them back? I know what I'd do, and it'd be making a list of countries I could do petty things to hurt them little by little, not by a lot, but just a little (I mean economically). In a globalist economy, which I hate, we are all pretty much dependent on one another in some way or another.

Say for instance Germany didn't take my present. Well, their LNG prices just went up 2.5% because "supply" is being pinched. Now, what ripple effect does that have? That could mean auto manufacturers (VW, Mercedes, etc.) need to either make their workers work in the cold or they have to raise their prices 0.50%, hurting everyone else down the line.

Why test the waters with something so silly as rejecting a painting, or even a $12,000 gift, over not knowing what an unhinged person would do if you rejected their gift?

Smile. Accept the gift. Engage in diplomacy. But more importantly, try to end the war.

It is true! This is not the first time Putin is handing over gifts to US presidents. I also read in an article that president Joe bidding received a gift of a writing box and a pen that is worth $12,000 in 2021 and also President Barack Obama received a porcelain plates and cup from Putin in 2013 as well.

I'm not saying that the sudden relationship between Trump and Putin is not a suspicious move. Yes, it is especially with Trump involved( he’s always up for something) but we don't know what might come up next.
