How do you feel about it? What mods and themes you like? How would you compare it to other software?

My take is that it is good enough for my current forum project. Its big disadvantage is the manual updating it needs. It's not a one-click solution as with all the other big-name software.

My first self-hosted forum ever was running phpBB1. About a week later, v2 came out and I went to it shortly after. I used it for a long time. It was nice but at the same time it was a nightmare because adding plugins was manual. You had to edit each page the plugin changed. v3 is way better.
Adding plugins on myBB and phpBB is manual, but it's not hard to do.

It used to harder on phpBB2 and below. You had to manually do all the code edits.

On MyBB and phpBB3, it might not be as automatic as others but it's nothing like it used to be like it was on phpBB2.
The updating of the software, not the plugins, is manual. It's probably not hard to do, but sort of a challenge.
