My father worked a journalist, so he always brought books and magazines home. I grew around books. I was a third grader when I bought a book for the first time, I had saved my allowances to buy book. When my father retired and went to live in the farm, I acquired all his books. By that time I also had bought a lot of books. My personal library had more than 5000 books and over 2 thousand magazines.

I like to collect books, but these days I am mostly collecting digital books

My wife has a ton of English books, I don't know why, as there is the internet, but she likes them as she can take notes on the pages and refer back to them.

I suppose I could say the same about myself with my collection of mostly business-related books, as well as my math, psychology, etc., books from both my undergrad and my grad school. However, the books cost as little as $100 and as much as $300, so I'm keeping them for the principle (I had a book stipend that paid for them, so nothing was out of pocket, but still).

Plus, the information in the business books doesn't change; it's just regurgitated in digestible formats for different audiences. I could be reading a business-related topic and then think to myself, "This sure sounds a lot like the Japanese Kaizen management style" (and know which book to pull to read up on it in more detail to refresh my memory with the newly applied examples).

I never throw away the books I read.

I dont keep the academic book once the academic part of our training is over. However, I read so much non fiction that I keep storing in it and day before yesterday, I bought my second cabinet for books.

Why do I keep the? I dont know actually. Infact, I read so much that I have a monthly allowance of three books in my personal budget which I pay for.

I can totally relate to this having grow up around books because both my parents were avid readers, and our house was always filled with books. I've always loved collecting books, but I have to admit, my collection is nowhere near yours. I've started to explore digital books too, but there's something special about physical books.
