Through musical sounds, human beings discover inspiration which could create stronger connection. Among countless meaningful songs that I have listened to, Imagine by John Lennon is the one which has left the deepest impression on me.

In 1971, John Lennon released a famous song which predicted a world free from war and poverty. This song about unity spread love and peace across the world to inspire people from every corner into building a better world to live in.

Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday is my top pick. The song exposes the brutal southern American lynching experience, racism and injustice throughout the nation. It contains haunting messages about social changes and significantly reminds the society about music's ability to confront social challenges. It tells us that music could be used as a tool to fight for human rights.

Eye of the Tiger :D
Immediately stuck in my head. Thanks.

We Are the World' by USA for Africa is my choice for a song that changed the world. It was released in 1985 and it's a collaboration between leading musicians. We Are the World support famine relief in Africa. The message of unity and social responsibility from this song generated a new hope for the people of Africa.

La Marseillaise.

None of these other pop songs come close. Let's be clear. You asked for the song that CHANGED the WORLD.

Imagine by John Lennon, is a inspirational but it did not change the world.
Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday, highlights injustice but it did not change the world.
The Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, is a gem of a motivational track but it did not change the world.
We Are the World' by USA for Africa ripped off Band Aid and raised money for a good cause but it did not change the world.

You all need to look further, deeper, harder. I offer you La Marseillaise.

Originally composed in 1792 during the French Revolution, La Marseillaise was a powerful rallying cry for French revolutionaries. It went on to inspire revolutionary movements across Europe. It is the classic example of how music can unite people under a common cause. It's equally artistic expression and political mobilisation. It contributed to the French Revolution which was a turning point that fundamentally reshaped politics and human rights.

Without the Le Marseillaise underpinning the French Revolution, the principles of "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" might never have spread with such force. They inspired the Latin American Wars on Independence, the European Revolutions of 1848, the growth of nationalism, republicanism, socialism and communism. It contributed to the demise of monarchism and the rise of democracy. Governance could be placed in the hands of the people.

Keep your top ten hits, kids. The French National Anthem is the song that changed the world.

I think songs by Michael Jackson has two profound influences in the society we see today.

1. It has brought to the forefront how people perceived the black identity and the issues with racism. I think he was successfull in telling the world the struggles that people of color has to undergo in their life.

2. It changed the face of music by helping popularising the world of 'pop music'.
