off-topic What social media sites do you use?

For threads discussing subjects unrelated to the main forum topics.
I use Facebook for brain-draining content; I can get hooked on Reels if I'm not too careful. However, I use Messenger the most to stay in contact with closer friends as it's above the Facebook post noise. I also get financial news from Reddit as users are kind enough to post Seeking Alpha and MarketWatch pay walled content.

I only heard of Bluesky once when Jack Dorsey left Twitter. Has it developed much in terms of both use and users? The last I saw, it was possibly an invite-only sign up system, or even closed to registrations, but it's been so long.

I didn't think anybody used Tumblr anymore. From my understanding, it was like Blogspot for people to create their own blogs, but the blogs had low quality posts in comparison, and a lot of it was porn. I thought that Substack had replaced it traffic-wise because of the authority of the authors on it along with the quality content they bring to the platform.

I get caught up on Facebook reels a lot too. Facebook messenger helps me stay connected with a lot of my friends and family members, so it’s kind of a life saver on that front.

Bluesky recently hit 10 million users and its no longer in invite-only mode.

Tumblr is still pretty popular. Automatic owns it. The same company that owns Wordpress.

I would prefer to use something like Telegram or Signal that has end to end encryption because I don't trust Messenger with so much more personal information that they can learn from. But, I'd have no luck teaching something new like that to who I need to talk to.

I'll have to check it out now. Does it have a lot of activity or just users?

Now I'm confused. 😄

I thought Google owned WordPress. Or is Automatic a Google company?

I have Telegram and Signal, but I really don’t use them as my friends & family members don’t use those them.

It has some good activity too.

Google owns Blogger.

To the best of my knowledge, I've used virtually all the social media platforms I can think of and drooped the ones which aren't much useful to me.

Right now, I still make use of Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, YouTube, Threads, and Truth App.
Are you also a veteran of the interwebs? I have used every social media as it has come out (except TikTok. I cannot stand it) and have stopped using almost all.

These days I only use LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube. That last one might technically not be a social media site, but I still count it as one.

I am active on Facebook, X, LInkedIn, Instagram and Youtube. I also have TikTok and Threads but I do not visit these platforms too often. I use social media for business and personal networking.

To be honest, I do not like social media that much as most of the people do. but that does doesn't say that I don't go there once in a while. I absolutely do but it's occasionally.

I've used MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Reddit in my lifetime. Now, I do not use social media whatsoever. I depend on message boards, AI, and Google for information and also message boards as my online social circle. I read so much negative, toxic stuff on social media that I drifted away from it.

I am on Facebook, Instagram and twitter. These are my go to sites and I enjoy every bit of them too
How many followers do you have on twitter? Do you use it for marketing purposes or networking? Have you met any new people on twitter?

I don't use social media. I find it to be a vile, insipid, truly awful blight on society. My kids are heavily into it and I have seen a change in them. Its almost as if their self-worth is linked to their popularity on social media.

It's easy to fall into the trap of measuring your popularity by the length of your friends list on social media. The reality is that many of those so-called 'friends' are just numbers on a screen. They aren't the ones who will be there for you when you need real support. True friends are the ones who remain by your side, even if they aren’t constantly clicking 'like' on your latest Facebook post. Their friendship isn’t dictated by algorithms or social media interactions; it’s built on real connection and loyalty.

The same goes for comparing yourself to Instagram ‘models’ and influencers. It’s important to remember that behind every perfectly posed selfie, there are likely a hundred that didn’t make the cut. People carefully curate what they show online, presenting a polished version of their lives. It’s all too easy to find yourself comparing your unfiltered reality, like your messy bed hair when you’ve just woken up, to a heavily edited, thrice-filtered image on your screen. The truth is, if you keep measuring yourself against these manufactured moments, you’ll never see just how genuinely beautiful you are. Beauty is not about perfection; it’s about authenticity.

When it comes to family life, it’s worth keeping in mind that no family is perfect. The smiling photos of day trips and family gatherings you see on social media are just snapshots, not the full story. Behind those cheerful moments are the mundane and sometimes difficult realities of life; like five days of domestic chores, workplace stress, and the everyday grind. The perfect family simply doesn’t exist, and that’s okay. Real life is messy and imperfect, and that’s what makes those good moments so valuable.

The anonymity of social media can bring out the worst in people. Many find it all too easy to act brave from behind their keyboards, throwing around threats and abuse that they would never dare say to someone’s face. It’s a kind of cowardice that hides behind the safety of a screen. In the real world, where consequences are tangible, these same people often lack the courage to stand by their words.

At the end of the day, life is not a popularity contest. It’s far better to have a handful of genuine friends than a legion of fair-weather acquaintances. True friendship is not about the quantity of connections but the quality of those relationships. Real friends are the ones who stand by you through both the highs and the lows, who don’t vanish when times get tough. They are the ones who make life richer and more meaningful, proving that authenticity will always outweigh appearances.
