What exactly is your standpoint when it comes to defining a great movie villain? For me, if a villain plays his role well, then it adds some level of excitement to the movie. A villain is fascinating because of the ambiguity it adds to the story. What do you think of this ?

I believe a good movie villain must have a good background and a motive. Look at the story of Joker. It is the best example of a villain who turned into a likable character, no matter how many people he has killed. And this depth makes people believe him and at the same time, a more formidable enemy.
