College athletes compensation has been a big issue that is difficult to resolve.
Athletes argue they receive no compensation for their significant contributions to their schools' games. I have seen a lot of them suffer injuries during tournaments, which means that they risked their lives.

Students need money too and if they receive payment, it could enable them to cover all of their expenses. Given how hard they are working, it can also inspire them.

I agree they should be paid, but in a different way than many people think.

I do not think they should be paid for simply playing, but I agree they should be paid for their images and likeness being used in games like 2K and elsewhere.

@MidnightMuse I belong to the set of people that support paying salaries to college athletes. They also risk a lot like regular or professional athletes. That alone is enough reason for them to get paid. The funny thing is that the majority of them get injured. Not paying them is unfair. They should be paid to cover expenses.

My distinction is this. Playing in college is not a career or a job. Yes, those who want to make their sport a career have to go through college sports, but it is still not a career or job. This means they cannot draw a salary.

However, they should be paid out of TV contracts, advertising, merch or wherever else whenever their image or likeness appears anywhere.

I agree that they should be played but we also need to see another way around as the school/college also invest a lot of money into their team to help them become player. if these students want to play professional, playing in school team is their door.

Paying college athletes can be somehow tricky because if they get paid, how would you classify them? Students or employees? Some of them already get scholarships to cover school costs. Maybe instead of cash, I think they could get extra help with school or jobs after graduation.
It’s a very thoughtful perspective. If college athletes are paid, there will be no line between student and employee. In my opinion, it would be more practical and meaningful to compensate them not just by scholarships but with tutoring or even job placement after they graduate.

College athletes are amateurs not professionals and as such should not be paid salaries. They already enjoy some benefits such as free tuition and free coaching. If they are well paid, they may not be serious with their studies which would be dangerous if they don't get professional contract after school. Many are not well known and do not generate meaningful revenue from endorsement and advertising for their colleges.
