They get bullied for speaking up in class, unless it's some macho anti-intellectual thing.
In my grade school, students sat around like fish while the teacher spoke. That's all that went on and also into college.
Anyway, though, it's not good for some student to be arrogant or a know-it-all, but when the students are totally quiet that can be bad.
