The NFL has decided not to punish Deshaun Watson following his latest sexual assault case, according to a league spokesperson who spoke to ESPN. The league concluded its review, stating there was insufficient evidence to support a violation of its personal conduct policy.
The lawsuit, filed in September, accused Watson of sexual assault and battery for allegedly exposing himself and assaulting a woman during a date at her apartment in 2020. Watson has vehemently denied the allegations through his attorney, and the case has since been settled.
This settlement comes two years after Watson faced over 20 lawsuits for various levels of sexual assault, all of which were settled out of court. Despite these legal issues, the NFL still chose to penalize Watson with an 11-game suspension ahead of the 2022 season, his first with the Browns.
Watson, who signed a record-setting contract with the Browns in 2022, struggled as the starting quarterback, going 1-6 this season before suffering a season-ending injury. The Browns have gone 2-3 with Jameis Winston stepping in for Watson.
