Some people idolize celebrities.

They buy all their clothing from fashion lines. They fill their bedroom or house with posters and any merch they can get. They wear shirts every day with the celebrity.

Some super fans will even threaten violence online against those who are against the celebrities.

The funny thing? This ain't a few weirdos out there doing this, either. This is a big portion of the fans of these celebs.

How do you think people can become that fixed on a celebrity? What causes it? Have you ever been this way?

Have you ever been this way?
No. Never.

I can recognize actors by their appearance and acting style, but I couldn't name them off the top of my head if I tried. That stuff is not important to me and is just wasted knowledge in the brain tank. I can only recognize them as great and choose to watch their movies based on the merit of their acting in other movies I've watched.

Of course, I can name perhaps 10 actors, but I probably still couldn't connect them to a specific movie. I could maybe only do this for 3-4 actors, if that, and a very limited few movies of ones I enjoyed.

My wife is the stark opposite of me. We'll be sitting through a movie, and an actor or actress will appear, and she'll go over who they are and what they played in or married to and got divorced from. When this happens, I keep silent, but I'm thinking to myself, "I honestly don't care because I'm trying to watch this movie." However, I still multi-task with the movie's plotline and listen to her because I know that's what she enjoys, and I give her the time to express her interests. If she goes before me, and we're no longer able to watch movies together, I would probably say I would miss that in-movie dialogue...

I have never been crazy for celebrities. Not even during my hormonal challenged teenage years. :D If you have been to India, you can see how far people can go when it comes to idolization of celebrities. There are temples of actors and people flock to these temples to worship the idols.
This is an idol of Indian actor called Amitabh Bachchan consecrated in a temple in India.

I've never been the type to idolize them, either.

I mean, they're rich and I'm not, why should I make them my savior?

I don't even know most bands or celebrities. I don't watch a lot of TV, though. I really only watch stuff on YouTube, stuff that's real and educational or adventurous.

Music-wise, I have no favorite genre. I listen to everything so that's all spread out, too. My YouTube premium subscription music feature picks out everything I like and adds new songs to in on my super playlist so I just let it do that and listen to new stuff that way.

Like many of us here, I am no idolizer of these people.

Why would I want to idolize a person who is out there, using his skills, to make money and live a life. What use it, for me, to spend my time learning what type of food these people take or who they marry or why they divorce?

Being a supporter is fine, but idolizing them is not good thing according to me.

Social media and fascination with fame are what drives people to worship celebrities. Audiences create some kind of emotional relationships with celebrities, thereby making them symbols of what they wish to achieve.

Social media plays a big role in this because through it, people gain close access to celebrities which makes them feel that they know them despite the reality of the mysterious nature of some of them.
