fitness Does being fit make you live longer?

This general fitness thread covers all aspects of fitness, including workouts, nutrition, wellness tips, lifestyle changes, and fitness advice.
I believe if you live a active/healthy lifestyle you'll live longer.
I feel that way too, but I know too much about genetics to accept it as fact. The fittest of people can have unknown genetic conditions or conditions that specifically impact the heart, and pushing themselves to the limits could do quite the opposite.

I would like to live longer, so I do exercise, as that's more of an outlier situation. However, I do have a murmur myself, so it could be a double-edged sword in my case too.

That's definitely not to say that you'll die sooner if you exercise. It's more likely than not the opposite.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to get routine checkups with a doctor for those that aren’t already doing so.

High blood pressure and high cholesterol is genetic in my family. I also deal with this, but I take medications for it. I have to watch what I eat as well.

I'm under a doctor's care for TRT and GH so I have to watch my blood pressure, which is a sign that I'm retaining too much water. For this, I take something to prevent T from aromatizing/converting to E so that excess water can flow and my BP will go down. Then, cholesterol can creep up, the same with RBC.

The cholesterol is managed by fish oil and RBC is managed by donating blood every 2-3 months.

So far across the board, I'm at healthy levels on paper. What it's really doing internally will only be known at autopsy. 😅

Being fit does not guarantee you a long life, however, being fit certainly increases your chances of long life. That's because when you are fit, you are also healthy and being healthy means you do not have diseases.

There is no such guarantee that you'll live longer if you are fit but ideally we should stay fit as it means less health related issues.

Longevity doesn't matter but what is more important is the quality life we live. Having good physical health can help you have a good mental health as well. This will increase your energy and Improve your quality of life.

I totally agree with you on that! Because exercising can describe the our health conditions. Physical activity assists us to have enough energy to enjoy ourselves. It is also good for our brain because it helps us to relax and to be on focus too.

These days many who are fit and gym daily does not even cross 50 years of age just because of their lifestyle and some do rely on Protein shakes a lot more and on the supplements which is not a good thing. Too much of this can go against you.

A state of fitness is desirable but taking a lot of supplements and protein shakes is undesirable. The main thing that can contribute to us living long are a proper nutrition and a healthy way of living. However, having too many supplements is actually dangerous for our body.

I recently read this book 'How Not to Diet'.

Its by a leading lifestyle medicine practitioners, infact one of the very few lifestyle medicine practitioners in the world.

He makes a very realistic conclusion - Fitness is all about exercise and food. You can look fit, but if you are not eating healthy, then health is a traveller's destination for you. Otherwise, you are already there!
