Very few people who are physically active think much about back stretches and conditioning (especially relevant for competitive sports or weightlifting) and thus likely don't take very good care of themselves.

Unless you're a weightlifter or a competitive sportsman, you're unlikely to know the right stretches to perform for the muscles in your back, nor undertake the stretches for the right amount of time in the right conditions... I'm interested to know as a bit of a straw-man poll, how many here regularly do back exercises/stretches before strenuous physical activity?

I have to admit, even though I know the proper stretches, I will skip a few from time to time. This is probably the reason for low back pain after strenuous exercise, which goes away after a bit anyway, as not stretching probably aggregates my existing back problem when paired with weight lifting.

When I am coaching someone, I'll go through all the steps first. I'd hate for them to hurt themselves the first week or month into their journey and then lose focus on the overall goal, or more, a slipped disc that prevents them from doing much of anything for life.
