Martial Arts is a common term used for different kinds of combat practices. There is no certainty over how many types of martial arts exist but one website lists 180 different kinds of martial arts. Since it is basically a combat practice, I always wonder why is it called art. I do not see anything artistic in fighting techniques. I mean what has it got to do with art when all you do is hit your opponent.

In my opinion, I think martial arts is called art because it also has to do with movement and patterns and it has a lot to do with our expression and being ourselves emotionally.

In my opinon, I think the skill, discipline as well as creativity are the ingredients that make martial art known as a form of art. They are similar in some kind of ways.

The martial arts is called an art just because action is done with body and mind. And It also requires skill just like the real art.

Martial arts involves more than just hiting your opponent. It requires skills, techniques and experience to be able to excel in the field. People consider it a joy to watch because they witness different kinds of moves, attack and defense techniques and Swift movements. All this makes it an art.
