discussWhat's The Connection Between Food and Culture?
Personally, I believe that there is a relationship between food and culture. In most cases, our culture define the kind of food we eat. What is the link between the two? What cultural aspects of our lives are manifested through the food we eat?
I believe that food, and culture and society are tightly linked.
Take society for instance. Each society has its traditions of eating together. This is what makes us bond culturally, as we inherit the personality characteristics of those around us at the proverbial dinner table, so to speak, to function in a healthy society.
Each region of the world is made up of different societies, and their cultures and traditions are closely linked to food too.
I would go further to even say that food has a link to not only characteristics but also physical traits. Some areas of the world are prone to culturally eat different things, and over the hundreds to thousands of years of existence, have made them appear physically different.
I believe that everyone know that food is a major aspect of culture. It is a way of being able to establish link with past and customs. For instance, in my family we prepare meals for special occasions such as holiday celebrations and we prepare our traditional food all through.
Muslims do not eat pork, Hindus do not eat beef. You see how culture affects food habit. Koreans eat dog meat but now 80 percent of Koreans to ban dog meat industry, you see how the western culture is altering their food habit.
They are linked and you can venture into other cultures just by using their recipes in your meal. It's a way to learn about other’s culture and tradition as well as there way of living.
What we eat makes who we are. This is a common believe in almost all cultures. I think science has also min some ways established this theory. Food we eat determines out life. Even the disease we get are also linked to food we eat. Food we eat gives us cultural identities.
