off-topic What is the Best Way to Support Authors in the Digital Age?

For threads discussing subjects unrelated to the main forum topics.
Being a book author myself, I must say that book writing is not a very good financial income option.

For my book, I have to choose between 10% of selling price or 30% of maximum retail price and bearing the printing cost of the book.

My publisher refused to accept any digital copies because of copyright infringement and book leakage issues. So, for a new publisher who has put in so much money and effort to hetting a book published, its not an easy task.

I buy ebooks and I always leave a review. My reviews are always positive. When reviewing a bad book, I will give constructive feedback/

Now, lets talk about you as a book author.

Mine is a academic book catering to a specific target audience.

I would love to write a fiction and non fiction book when the time comes, but for now, its not a priority.

Actually, after understanding that the royalty is just 10% of the selling price, I am not very enthusiastic about writing one :D

Do you write school books or college books? What subject?
You can get 70 percent royalty for ebooks on Amazon.

Buy your books from a local, independent bookstore. Avoid Amazon at all costs. They are a monopoly. Bezos is the anti-christ. The damage he has done to the high street and local business all over the world is unforgivable. What people fail to realise is that when they use Amazon, they are taking money out of the pockets of hard-working people and giving it to a billionaire who will never spend that money in the community.

Its a travesty, really.

And don't get me started on the tax issues.

For competitive exams for students who have finished college.

Amazon has 70% royalty, but my books are for students who have not yet migrated to the digital world :(
Books for competitive exams are very popular here, you must be making a lot of money. :D

I was basically talking about selling books via Amazon. :D
However, I totally agree on how Amazon has destroyed small businesses. Interestingly, Amazon is not popular here because they do not ship physical goods. There are a lot of local online business doing very well with selling books (and also other stuff).

Books for competitive exams are very popular, but how many of them will be willing to study from a digital format of a book?

With schools not promoting digital books, a behavioural change in students would be very difficult. So the market for such digital books are disproportionately small compared to the interest shown by consumers for physical books.
