music The relationship between music and mental health.

For threads introducing new music releases, discoveries, or recommendations.
Music has always helped me with any mental health difficulties I have suffered in the past. I'm in a much better place lately than I was in my teenage years for example, but I still regularly listen to music just to de-stress. There's certain songs I'll put on at times when I feel I need a pick-me-up and inevitably they seem to do the job. I'd be quite stuck without music in my life on reflection, actually.

Yes, I think music does have a positive effect on my mental health. It allows you to listen to songs you enjoy and the lyrics can sometimes relate to what you're going through and makes you feel better that you're not alone in this fight.

I do music as a pro and I can tell anyone for free that music has an effect on mental health. And it is not always positive. There are situations that music triggers sadness on people depending on the reflection of the person on the music being played or the message the person interpretes from the lyrics.

I'm one of those who understand that music is really great for mood! It can help us to release our stress when we are bothered or down. Some users prefer to listen to relaxing music, it may be some nature sounds or piano songs too.
It is loud and clear that music has great effects on the way our mind functions. One can wonder how it can do so much for us but it's true. It brings stress down and promote relaxation. Music like nature sounds, piano or classical music can be very beneficial for unwinding the mind and bringing in emotional regulation in a great way.

I'm not sure if I have experienced a connection between music and my mental health. What music mainly does for me is lighten my mood, and that is as far as it goes.
I'd rather not have my mental health to be dependent on music.
That's a fair point. But I feel that there is no constant effect of music on patient’s psychological condition. It might appear to make some people feel somewhat better, at least for a while, and that is not all bad because I have been there. But it is good advice to avoid imposing music as an essential tool towards maintaining a good mental state.

I concur. That it worked for one person doesn't mean it will work for another. Music shouldn't be the only thing to think of when trying to improve someone's mental health.
