Movie information in first post provided by The Movie Database
This 1980 movie is a true classic. It stars Vanessa Redgrave as a talented Jewess pianist who is arrested by the Nazis in 1939, and transported via cattle car to Auschwitz concentration camp. Once there she is pressed into assuming the role of conductor for the camp orchestra. She does it in order to survive and to wait the war out, hence the name of the movie.
It is highly realistic and does not attempt to sugar coat the true story of what went on there. This movie demonstrates both the best and worst of our human nature. It is well worth watching and runs about 2 hours long.

Actually, I do not have a positive opinion about this film. It only had meaning to me when Fania and Alma Rose were together. The plot ends up leaving the audience with nothing to take home. The ending is not really impressive. But the graphics is still very relevant despite the fact that the movie was created in 1980.
