Do you think the relationship between two different cultures can work? Do you think a Jewish person and a Muslim can have a very good conjugal life? If a Christian marries a Hindu, will it work? Well, I do not think this will work. Well, there are exceptions but I think the differences between cultures will always create issues in relationship.

I married to Japanese which can be a mix of Buddhism, Shinto, and Confucianism while I am agnostic.

She respects that I try, but there are some practices that I just cannot do. One example of this is a traditional Japanese funeral where the bones are picked up by chopsticks and placed in an urn. That, around the smell of a burning body lingering in the room, is not something I could handle well. I had to excuse myself, and won't go to any more funerals.

Other traditions, I just don't do because I can't believe in them. I respectfully bow out of them, and my wife is fine with it.

I don't force her to believe that there may be nothing after this, and she doesn't force me to believe that we become differing beings after this.

It would certainly work if you are respectful to each other cultures. I have a cousin who is married to a Japanese woman. They have been married for more than 15 years. Cultural differences creates issues but if you are respectful to other's culture, it will work, he says. By the way, if you are married to a Japanese woman, it is very likely that your relationship works because as they say "Japanese women make the best wives" :D

17th year last month.

You can make it work, but sometimes there are conflicts.

I wouldn't go into a relationship knowing that there are strong cultural differences that you just cannot handle. An example of this may be Jewish and Muslim. If you can make it work for you, fine, but, there might be troubles in the relationship down the line because of family pressures. Both must consider this before they know they are meant for each other because there could be external factors that eventually drive you apart.

Together for 17 years, wow! Congratulations.
Marrying someone is not just about getting married to another individual, it is also a about two families forming a new relationship. If there is a cultural differences, there will be a lot of family pressure. If you cannot handle the pressure, probably your relationship will not last.

I like the fact that you are true to yourself and it's even more romantic that your wife is supportive of that.🤣 That's why your relationship works. It Means, respecting boundaries.

Wow! This is the first time I hear this. I might have to tell my younger brother to go pick a Chinese woman. 🤣 Jokes apart, I think culture has nothing to do with being a good wife or not. What matters is respecting each other's culture and beliefs.
