Is being funny a natural ability or can a person learn to be funny?

Being funny is a natural ability, you cannot pretend to be funny. You can pretend to be angry or serious but cannot pretend to be funny

That I do not believe that being funny is so natural. Some people are able to learn to be funny using other people’s methods and learning how to do it. But if you are not funny, then you may get way too serious and be too much of a clown or a joker.

I think the attribute of being funny is a matter of exposure rather than natural ability. If you get to stay around people that are funny, there is every tendency that you would be witty too as a result.

You gotta know how to relate to audience. It has to be delivered right.

Of course, some people don't find certain things funny no matter what. For instance, you can't joke around with hardcore Republicans or Democrats, for instance, when regarding their own side.

Like many things, comedy is a skill that can be learned. Do you think the best stand up comedians just stumbled out of bed and were the best in the industry? No, it takes practice and it takes work. You can learn to be funny, just like you can learn to be anything else. Comedy is a skill.

I do believe that being funny and comedy are a skill that can be taught and individuals can learn it. Some are born just being funny and what we would call a comedian. I know my youngest brother and even my youngest son, they are just naturally funny and can instantly come out with something that can make you laugh out loud. I am able to on some occasions but definitely not a great as my youngest son and youngest brother.

I do a lot of public speaking. I find the audience engages better with you when you try to keep it funny here and there. So, I do it with speaking, and I do it with my videos.

But I'm a bit awkwardly funny, according to most. Apparently, that's my humor style.

The above video is hosted by a guy who knows his stuff, but his New Jersey accent and passive speaking style doesn't work as well as the next speaker's style.

Well, I don't think I'm funny, but people laugh at what I say all the time, and I'm not trying to be funny, but they just see something funny in it. There was this lady at work who would always laugh at unfunny things I said, but when I said something (what I thought was funny), she would be totally silent.

It is not everyone that can be funny when you are talking to them. When you meet someone who is naturally funny, you can always feel it with the way they speak and act as every move would end up being hilarious.
