HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys has shared new details about the anticipated Harry Potter TV series, revealing that the earliest release window would likely be 2027. Speaking with Collider, Bloys mentioned that while work on writing and casting is underway, viewers shouldn’t expect the show any sooner.
Casting for Harry, Ron, and Hermione began in September, and one key challenge is managing the young actors’ natural aging over the seasons. To address this, Bloys suggested that HBO might film the first two seasons back-to-back. “From ages 11 to 13, there’s a big jump,” he explained, hinting at a strategy to keep characters’ ages consistent onscreen.
Although Bloys is hopeful for an annual release schedule, he stressed it might not be feasible, as it depends heavily on how much can be written in advance.
On J.K. Rowling’s involvement, Bloys confirmed she has been “fairly involved” in picking the writer and director and likely will have input on casting. However, he assured fans that her involvement hadn’t affected key production decisions.
With a potential 2027 premiere, fans may still have a long wait ahead, but HBO is clearly working on balancing fidelity to the books with the realities of adapting the series for TV.
