Several times I have been asked out by a friend's ex-boyfriends or ex- husbands. I have obviously declined. However, I have seen my other friends having a fling with their friends' ex-partners without a problem! For some reason, I just cannot bring myself to attach with someone who I know was once in a relationship with a person known to me, I would feel awkward bringing them in front of my same friend? What are your views in this matter?

Dating a friend’s ex doesn't sound right. It can really damage your friendship. I have seen people who do not see issues in that but I feel it's a sign of betrayal.
I don't know about anyone else, but for me, if my friend has dated a girl before, she is completely off limits, wether they are still together or not.
I think the feeling of running into an ex with a best friend is awkward. It's awkward even if it's with a stranger.
I would always talk to my friend if I have interest in his ex. I would ask him if he is over her completely. When he gives me the go ahead, I don't see any reason I shouldn't date her if I like her. Would I have to pass on someone I genuinely love because he or she had a failed relationship with my friend? For me, certainly no.
