was HUD providing programs for undocumented aliens?
I can only assume so if FEMA was spending $152/night~ on rooms up in NYC...
The acting head of the federal agency responsible for responding to disasters said Monday that he’s suspending payments sent to New York City to house migrants and that staff who made them will be held accountable, after Elon Musk blasted the transactions on his social media platform. Musk, who...

Garcia said the city has never paid luxury rates. The vast majority are outside Manhattan, and the government has paid on average $152 a night for rooms, according to a 2024 city comptroller report. In comparison, 5-star hotels in Manhattan for the coming weekend run from $400 a night to well over $1,000.
Not a warning (here), but an everyday use warning: Stop using this politically correct term to describe them. They are illegal aliens. I don't care how many times I'm corrected for stating that they are illegal aliens. I will still refer to them as such for illegal entry into the United States. By using "undocumented", you are downplaying the severity of illegal immigration in this country and playing into their hand that they are just asylum seekers here to do no wrong, which for the most part they are, but there is still a process to follow.
1911. 8 U.S.C. 1325 -- Unlawful Entry, Failure To Depart, Fleeing Immigration Checkpoints, Marriage Fraud, Commercial Enterprise Fraud
Section 1325 sets forth criminal offenses relating to (1)
improper entry into the United States by an alien, (2) entry into marriage for the purpose of evading immigration laws, and (3) establishing a commercial enterprise for the purpose of evading immigration laws. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) amended 8 U.S.C. § 1325 to provide that an alien apprehended while entering or attempting to enter the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty.

We have way too many homeless Americans. Quit ignoring them and helping those who are not Americans.
Totally agree. Many homeless veterans could be flown around to various places to get proper housing, education, and rehabilitation.
The total number of Veterans who experienced homelessness was 32,882 – a decrease 7.5% over January 2023. This is the fewest number of Veterans counted since HUD first began reporting on Veteran homelessness in the PIT Count in 2019.

But NYC can put up 54,000? Apart from my belief, that there are more distressed Veterans than 32,882, make this make sense to me.
Currently, in addition to roughly 54,000 people in the DHS homeless shelter system who resided in New York City prior to July 2022, there are more than 65,000 asylum seekers in emergency shelters.
The Comptroller’s Office estimates that 77 percent of asylum seekers are sheltered in hotels, with the City leasing approximately 15,750 rooms across 157 hotels in New York City. This represents approximately 11.5 percent of the overall hotel inventory of 136,000 rooms in New York City.

And, this is only looking at New York City. This is beyond outrageous when you make a comparison across the States.
I'm always against welfare unless necessary.
Some welfare is fine to help people get back on their feet. But, there needs to be stipulations such as drug testing to even volunteer work if you cannot find a suitable job. You shouldn't just be filing that you applied to 3 jobs per week to collect unemployment; I'm sure you can fit 10 community-service hours in there to, one, not only help your community, but two, strengthen your resume and job skills.
The problem is that government always makes it worse by making people dependent on the welfare system. One example of this is that mothers are incentivized not to marry because they can get assistance if they are unmarried. When you make laws like this, you are sending a message that people aren't responsible for their actions and that the government will always be there to help.
