discuss Do Gods Need Money?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
Why do Gods need money?
The Gods themselves do not need an offering of money, at least in Christian and Muslim faiths. I presume that if you can give, but don't, you may be judged for that by the Gods when you meet your maker.

Tithing's intention is to be given to give to the needy, though, I believe it's also used to support the church expansion and the word of God (or Allah) to be spread as that is not free.

My mother made below/at the poverty line and refused handouts from government social programs, although very much qualified for them. We scraped by on the cash that she did get. What helped most was that members of the congregation brought us cooked dinners, etc., every once in a while and we got to go to the food pantry every week or two. We would go hungry if it weren't for the generosity of the members to go above and beyond the 10% they gave. That said, my mom would also give 10%, even though that 10% would have tremendously as most of the purchases for necessities had to go on credit cards with 23%+ interest rates.

Religious institutions collect donations and use the money to feed or support needy people. I read somewhere that Steve Jobs ate at ISKON temple (Hind temple) during his difficult days. Gods don't need money but the religious institutions certainly do need money. But I feel that religious institutions are collecting more money than they are actually spending for the good things and the religions leaders are enjoying the luxury at the expense of common people

This is especially true for megachurches.

But, not all churches are corrupt. Some do good, and some do bad. I'm sure the ones that do bad, are also run by bad people that aren't god-fearing because they're corrupt to the core already. However, you can't discount the churches that do good because of the few that choose to use money for their personal benefit and not for the community.

I really would love when religious leaders would come out straight to tell you that they need money to sustain themselves and the religious work than claim that God needs money. How can an entity that controls the whole world be interested in my money. I only donate to religious institutions that come out straight and not try to manipulate me.

A sizeable church will typically have a pastor/preacher and a volunteer treasurer as it's way too much work to handle both for one person.

I think if the pastor came out and said "God needs money" would be fine if it were followed up with the treasurer explaining how God needs the money, where it's been put to use, and where God needs it next.

I think a lot more people would relate to the "God needs the money" message if they understood why, which is being straight as you say.

And, if the pastor handles the money, be straight and say where the money goes and where they intend on putting the requested money in a statement such as, "God needs the money for us to continue our support of His message in (place). We've done X, Y, and Z there, but our efforts have fallen short. God needs us to do more (there), and we will continue doing X, Y, Z."

But to condense it to just "God needs money" makes me skeptical.

Individuals contribute cash to church, temple, and other places of worship. However, does God need money at all? No! The Lord is omnipotent, and there is nothing that He requires. I think the money should be spent on helping people, repairs work of buildings and on other beneficial things for the society too.
God doesn't need money. Money is donated to church and temples with the motive to help people and to show compassion. That money should be spent on helping people out and improving our lives.

I know most of you will say "No"
But just look at the religious institutions and religious leaders in all religions, they are always asking for money. Do you know who sits on the world's biggest wealth reserve? Well, that's Pope.
Why do Gods need money?
Your question is made in a wrong way. It should be "Do church representatives need money" and not God/Gods. I am an Orthodox Christian and I am telling you 100% that God doesn't seek money from his followers. Church also doesn't ask you for money, nothing is being charched. You can donate money for poor, that's what you can do. Goverment is paying priests salary as any other job. They are also allowed to take money for servises they provide for others. Sometimes it is given in goods, and sometimes with money (not much). But, God has nothing to do with it.

God does not need money at all. Why would he? Where would he spend it in the spiritual realm? Religious institutions need money to run. But the challenge now is that religious leaders are fleecing the adherents to enrich themselves.

If I had asked "Do church representatives need money" the answer would be yes. That's because Church is an institution and it needs money to operate. :D

God doesnt, God men wants it :D

In fact, the idea of confession in the church was only recently modified. Earlier, faithful was supposed to buy 'letter indulgences' at least once in a year so that your sins can be forgiven. this allowed the Christian church to amass large wealth.

However, when time progressed, the idea of bribing God for forgiveness became extremely untenable and the idea was drooped.

The ponzi schemes religions build to keep control of the faithful are designed so beautifully :D

Some churches in my country make an amount monthly that is more than the annual budget of my country. Even at that, most of these religious institutions don't do any charity work. At this level, the God needs money thing is a scamming system.
