David Arquette is officially back as Dewey Riley in Scream 7, despite his character being killed off in Scream (2022). Deadline confirms that Arquette will reprise his role, joining a growing list of actors returning as previously deceased characters. The film hits theaters on February 27, 2026.

Arquette isn’t the only one making an unexpected return—Matthew Lillard (Stu Macher) and Scott Foley (Roman Bridger) are also back. How? That remains a mystery. According to Deadline, all three actors will return in a "surprise way," but plot details are being kept tightly under wraps.

Dewey, a fan-favorite since the 1996 original, met his brutal end at the hands of Amber Freeman (Scream 2022). Ironically, Amber’s actress, Mikey Madison, just became the first Ghostface performer to win an Oscar. Scream 7 seems to be leaning heavily into bringing back the past—literally.
It’s like Scream is turning into the horror version of Fast & Furious—no one stays dead! But hey, we loved Dewey, so who’s complaining?

Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox return as Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers, joined by franchise regulars Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Newcomers include Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, and Joel McHale, who will play Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans.

Kevin Williamson, the original Scream writer, is directing Scream 7. With so many surprising returns, fans are left wondering—flashbacks? Alternate timelines? Some supernatural twist? No matter what, this sequel is shaping up to be one of the wildest in the franchise’s history.
If they’re bringing people back from the dead, should we expect a Billy Loomis comeback next? How do you think they’ll explain all these resurrections?
