Coldplay just scored their first Billboard 200 No. 1 album in over a decade with Moon Music. The eco-conscious album debuted with 120,000 equivalent units, including 106,000 traditional sales, according to Luminate. This marks their biggest U.S. opening since 2015’s A Head Full of Dreams and their first No. 1 since 2014’s Ghost Stories.
Moon Music also dominated the UK charts, becoming the best-selling album of 2024 by a UK act and outselling the rest of the UK Top 40 combined. It’s also the top debut by any group since One Direction in 2013.
Coldplay's sustainable album concept helped drive sales. The LP was made using recycled plastic, with one edition created from river plastic collected by The Ocean Cleanup in Guatemala. Even their CDs were eco-friendly, made from 90% recycled material.
Phil Harvey, Coldplay's manager, credited the album’s success to the team, saying, “To achieve this success in the middle of a record-breaking stadium tour makes it all the more impressive.” Coldplay’s ongoing tour will return to the U.S. for another summer of sold-out stadium shows in 2025.
Meanwhile, Shaboozey's A Bar Song (Tipsy) remains on top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking its 14th week at No. 1. With nearly 6 million units sold, it’s officially the best-selling song of the year so far, ahead of tracks from Post Malone and Kendrick Lamar.
