The site has grown quickly as people continue to search for X alternatives.

Short-form posting platform Bluesky crossed the 15 million user mark today amid a recent surge of user signups in the wake of the US presidential election. That’s according to a stat-tracking site put together by Bluesky developer Jaz, using the Bluesky API.
The platform, which rests on the decentralized AT Protocol, added about a million new users in the last week. Bluesky COO Rose Wang recently told The Verge that the “majority” of new users flocking to the platform have been from the US. The Bluesky app is currently at number one in the iOS app store, followed by Threads, ChatGPT, and the Google app.

Meta’s Threads is still outpacing Bluesky, having recently hit 275 million monthly users and growing at a rate of over a million signups per day. But Bluesky offers a very different experience. Both are ad-free (for now), but whereas Threads uses a single Meta-made algorithmic feed, Bluesky offers user-created algorithmic feeds in addition to its “Discover” and “Popular With Friends” ones.
New features that Bluesky has recently rolled out include video posting, pinned posts and custom fonts, and a slew of “anti-toxicity” features that let you do things like detach your posts when someone else quotes them.

Bluesky gains 1 million users to cross the 15 million user mark, while X is hemorrhaging users since Trump won the election.

Anyone can see what is going on here, right?

That's indeed an impressive growth for Bluesky. What I found out is that users who are seeking alternatives leverage the decentralized AT Protocol and short-form posting format to make their opinion known. That's the reason for the growth.

The success achieved by Bluesky is a result of people wanting privacy. People strive to eliminate the third party as much as possible. Bluesky is a privacy focused platform and that's a feature people wanted. But we can't also do without talking about the impending challenges with privacy platforms. There would be lack of moderation, which is a big concern.

I'm actually happy people are using Bluesky more over Twitter. I don't blame them, Twitter has been a cesspool for a long time now. It won't be long before Twitter becomes the new Truth Social.

I jumped on the Bluesky wagon today.

I did it for my Hiking with Shawn brand.

I'm getting followers and enjoying my time on there.

I'm shocked that X/Musk isn't trying to do anything legally because of how much the service looks like X. It's like an X-clone!

I kind of feel like they need to be more original than that, what do you all think?

I am not using it yet, when I heard of this and wanted to try, it was invite only. Now, it can be joined without invite link and I have no interest. It takes a lot of time to build followers and I do not want to start with zero when I have spent considerable amount of time to build followers on X.

It's really similar to X. Jack Dorsey, former CEO of X established it. But he is no longer with the company. A lot of people, including celebrities, are switching to Bluesky because they are looking for an alternative to X. But it will be difficult for the company to rival X. Elon Musk may even attempt to buy it in future.

It’s actually an open source network, so it’ll be tough for someone like Elon to buy it. It’ll be easy for another developer to create another Bluesky.

I think so too. If I did not see the logo or URL, I would have through I was still on Twitter

If you decide to join Bluesky, you can transfer your twitter followers to your Bluesky account if they’re on the platform with Skybridge.

This tool allows you to migrate your followers, followings, and even your block list from X to Bluesky, making the transition relatively seamless.

Wow, that sounds interesting. However, I will have to find out whether my X followers are on Bluesky or not. If considerable number of my x followers are already using Bluesky, I might try skybridge. By the way is it a free tool?

Yes, the tool is free.😏

I have found Bsky to be very left-wing.

I'm apolitical. I don't take sides because when you do that, you instill bias into what you perceive as a fact.

X is far right, and BSky is far left.

What's a good middle-ground platform? We need that.

However, I'm still enjoying both as long as both provide an algorithm that I can use to not see certain things and more of the things I want to see, which is mainly outdoor recreation.
