Apple is gearing up to announce a new smart home hub, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. As early as March 2025, the iPhone maker could release a tablet that mounts to your wall, controls smart home appliances, does video calls, and of course features Apple Intelligence.

The device reportedly has a 6-inch touchscreen, but it’s expected that, like a HomePod, it will use voice to control it, either through Siri, Apple Intelligence, or an upcoming system called “App Intents” that lets AI control applications. It supposedly runs on a new OS, with sensors to detect how close a person is, but will have traditional Apple apps like Safari, Apple Music, Notes, and Calendar.

Apple’s “command center for the home” seems intended as a rival to Amazon’s Echo Hub and Google’s Nest Hub, so expect it to be priced similarly (i.e. $100 to $250). However, Apple is also working on an iPad on a robotic arm that follows you around the room, which could cost closer to $1000.

I have a Google Nest (got one still new in the box too as I spent over $10,000 on electronics, mainly A/C units, when I furnished my house) that I use in the kitchen for watching YouTube at the sink, but nothing more than that.

I wish there were a device that could support everything though. I like Blink cameras and wish they would sync easier than just the Blink App.

The idea of an Apple product doesn't appeal to me much because I know they'll follow through with only supporting Apple devices. I would probably have to upgrade to Apple cameras, which would probably be 2x the price and look fancier to have the "Apple touch", which is not something you want when you're securing your home with cameras, as you want something that doesn't stand out too much. Though, they'll probably consider this in their design, if they get around to it, and might have something even stealthier. Time will only tell.

What's the point when you can have a TV with a bigger screen size. When you attack a hand hled device to a wall, it is no longer a hand held device. They are just fooling us.
