discuss Alcoholism in Christianity

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
What are Christianity's views about alcoholism?

In our local church, all the archdiocese actively preach against alcohol. However, globally, even Vatican makes money our of alcohol by selling bottles exclusively autographed by the Pope.

Even otherwise, the wine used for holy mass also has alcohol content.
What we should be discussing is "Christsinity and Alcohol" not "Christianity and Alcoholism". This is because alcoholism, which happens when there is excessive dependence on alcohol, is bad in its entirety. I know most religions advise against excessive drinking but they don't advise us to completely abstain from alcohol.

Most other religions within the Christianity realm advise against drinking aside from Catholics. I've gone to Christian, Methodist, Baptist, and Pentecostal Churches and all of them teach not to drink. Pennetcost is a bit more strict than the others. They believe drinking results in hellfire.

I agree with alcoholism. It's bad. I had to deal with it with my family and it's made me hate alcohol. I don't judge others who do it but I have no use for it.

I used to enjoy drinking IPAs on the weekends, a six pack in three days. But even those are dead to me all because of drunken family members who have made me hate alcohol.

I honestly feel like religion is something to seek to get away from alcoholism, IMO.

Catholicism, Methodism, Pentecostalism, believe drunkenness can result in hell fire. Reformed churches believe all is forgiven after conversion, including future sins.

Future sins that you ask for forgiveness for, maybe.

But that is why Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, right? So that our sins can be forgiven.

But if you sin more, you'll have to ask for forgiveness for them.

I don't think constantly sinning and just figuring you'll ask for forgiveness later is a good thing, though. I think we should try to quit doing sinful things if we believe this way.

I don't push religion, but I believe in what I feel in my heart to be true.

I definitely sin. I'm not perfect. But I do try my hardest to be a good and loving person. I also try not to hold a grudge. In fact, I can't stand it when I'm into it with someone.

Regardless of what we all believe, I think we all need to start working on being nicer to each other.
